Carriage Driving Lessons
Many people would like to try carriage driving but do not know how to get started. Some are experienced riders who would like to enjoy something new with their equine companion. Others may have limited mobility and need an easier way to enjoy their horse. Steps and a padded seat make it easy and more comfortable to drive a carriage, as compared to mounting a horse. If this sounds like you, we can help teach you what you need to know.
Training usually is mixed at your barn and ours, depending upon the lesson topics and what equipment you own presently. We specialize in training folks that want to "get started" and are interested in pleasure driving.
Your driving lessons will include:
-Harnessing & types of collars. -Adjusting harness. -Carriage types and benefits. -Antiques vs reproductions. -Hitching to a Carriage. -Driving commands. -Reinsmanship. -How to hitch & drive numerous carriage types. -Learn what a carriage lamp is and how it works. -Learn how to hold & use a carriage whip.
Our lesson horses are Standardbreds. They are professionally trained harness horses that are safe & sane under any circumstances. Our normal training vehicles are shown below.
You can take as many or as few lessons as you feel you need, without obligation. We charge $50/hr. within a 1/2 hr radius from Rehoboth.
